We didn't plan on going on a "babymoon." I hate when people say "babymoon." But as the story goes, I saw an amazing deal on airfare and we decided we had to go - because we've been missing Japan. Missing it like you miss the warm sun and the aliveness of the plants and trees in the deep freeze of winter. And I happen to be pregnant... so this is our babymoon.
Tokyo is dense. There are people everywhere, the trains are packed, there's always construction, you have to wait in line for almost everything. So why do we love Tokyo?
Let's take a walk and let me show you.
Tokyo is a contrast of old and new, innovations and traditions, and amazing food everywhere.
Tokyo is not all skyscrapers and high speed trains. We love the feeling of being totally removed from the city and surrounded by nature and tranquility, just by stepping through the gates of a temple or shrine.
In Tokyo, we take a lot of trains, but we also walk a lot.
This time we couldn't miss the 47 Ronin Temple - the burial place of the samurai that plotted to avenge their unfairly punished master. They succeeded in killing Lord Kita, and brought his head to this very site, but were then ordered to commit seppuku. People still come to light incense for the samurai.
There are many unique neighborhoods in Tokyo, each with their own personality. Walking from place to place is the best way to experience the feel and details of each area.
